EFCC lawsuit

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has dismissed two of its officials for alleged involvement in corrupt practices.

The announcement that two officials were dismissed for alleged corrupt acts was made by the EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, during the 6th Annual Criminal Law Review Conference organized by the Rule of Law Development Foundation in Abuja on Monday, November 18, 2024.

Olukoyede revealed that the dismissals occurred two weeks ago and emphasized the agency’s commitment to fighting corruption internally. He also disclosed plans to prosecute the dismissed staff members, stating that EFCC employees must adhere to the same standards they enforce.

“You can’t be fighting corruption with dirty hands,” Olukoyede declared. “He who comes to equity must have clean hands. I have said I will not only dismiss corrupt staff but also prosecute them. We are already preparing the case files for those dismissed.”

The EFCC boss reiterated his commitment to accountability, urging the public to report any corrupt staff. He pledged swift action against erring employees, adding, “Any staff that is corrupt, I will show you the way out. If you see something, report it, and we will do justice.”

Olukoyede also shared his personal experience of being investigated for two years while serving as EFCC Secretary, underscoring his understanding of the importance of following due process. He expressed a vision to use the EFCC’s mandate to foster economic growth while upholding the rule of law.

The event also featured remarks from Joseph Daudu, Coordinator of the Rule of Law Development Foundation, who highlighted the significance of the annual conference as a platform for promoting legal reforms.

The EFCC’s bold stance on internal accountability is seen as a move to bolster its credibility in the fight to fight corrupt acts in the country by first dealing with its compromised officials.
