Two players from the Super Falcons team, Rasheedat Ajibade and Chiamaka Nnadozie have been nominated for the 2024 CAF Women’s Player of the Year award.
Their outstanding performances over the past season have earned them a spot among ten players vying for the prestigious honor.
Both players played key roles in the Super Falcons’ participation in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, showcasing their talent on an international level.
In addition to their national team contributions, their club achievements have been impressive. Ajibade helped Atletico Madrid secure a third-place finish in the Spanish Primera División (Iberdrola) for the 2023-2024 season.
Nnadozie, on the other hand, has been a vital player for Paris FC, playing a crucial part in the team’s qualification for the UEFA Women’s Champions League. She was also named the Best Goalkeeper at the 2023 CAF Awards, highlighting her exceptional skills and impact on her team’s success.
In men’s football, Atalanta winger Ademola Lookman is considered a strong contender for the CAF Men’s Player of the Year award. The former Leicester City forward played a pivotal role in helping Atalanta win the 2023-2024 Europa League, scoring a hat-trick in the final to secure the title. Lookman is the only Nigerian player among the final five nominees.
The nomination of the two players from the Super Falcons team for the CAF Woman Player of the Year award underline the strong dominance of Nigeria in the women game in Africa.
