Gunmen Kidnap Three Relatives Of Prominent Journalist, Demand Ransom

Three relatives of Ahmed Ajobe, a former editor of Daily Trust, have been kidnapped by gunmen in Awo, Ankpa Local Government Area, Kogi State.

Among those kidnapped is Ajobe’s younger sister, Halimtu-Sadiya Tahir. The incident GWG.ng reports, is coming in the wake of the loss of Ahmed Ajobe’s father.

Reports indicate the victims were kidnapped on Thursday, November 21, 2024, as they returned from a local market, preparing for the seven-day prayers of Ajobe’s mother, who passed away on Sunday after a prolonged illness.

Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, William Aya, confirmed the incident, stating that the Divisional Police Officer and tactical teams have been mobilized to rescue the victims. He assured the public that efforts are underway to apprehend the perpetrators and ensure the safe release of the hostages.

According to a family source, the kidnappers have demanded a ransom of N50 million. The source, who preferred anonymity, disclosed that negotiations are ongoing, but no ransom has been paid, and the victims remain in captivity.

The abduction has raised concerns about increasing insecurity in the region, particularly in Kogi State. Efforts by security forces are expected to intensify as the victims’ family and the local community await their safe return.
