The Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has approved the creation of a 14-member State Assets Verification Committee tasked to probe the administration of his predecessor, Godwin Obaseki.

According to the statement, the committee will be chaired by Dr. Ernest Afolabi Umakhihe, with Anslem Ojezua serving as deputy chairman and Frank Edebor as secretary. Other notable members include Kassim Afegbua, Patrick Ikhariale, Taiwo Akerele, Patrick Idiake, Rasaq Bello-Osagie, Fredrick Unopah, and Abdallah.
GWG.ng reports that a number of the committee members were in the frontline in the battle to stop Obaseki’s ambition to foist his personal choice as his successor
The initiative aims to fulfill Governor Okpebholo’s campaign promise to promote probity, accountability, and transparency in governance. Itua emphasized that the previous administration had failed to provide a comprehensive database of the state’s assets and liabilities despite multiple requests.
“Establishing the State Assets Verification Committee is essential for ensuring the state’s development and holding past leadership accountable. This move will also help clarify the state’s financial standing and the assets inherited from the previous government,” the statement added.
The committee to probe the Obaseki administration comprises respected figures from Edo State, who are expected to carry out the investigation with diligence and impartiality.
