Paulo Defends Davido Over Comment On Living In Nigeria
Music executive Paulo Okoye, also known as Paulo, has come to the defense of Afrobeats star Davido following backlash over the singer’s remarks about Nigeria’s economy.
Davido recently discouraged African Americans from relocating to Africa, citing the nation’s economic challenges.
The comment sparked criticism from pro-government figures, including political commentator Joe Igbokwe. However, Paulo, who is in a relationship with Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo, took to Instagram to support the singer’s perspective.
In a post shared via his Insta-story, Paulo acknowledged the harsh realities of Nigeria’s current economic climate. He pointed out the exodus of multinational companies and the financial struggles faced by local businesses as evidence of the nation’s challenges.
Urging critics to stop attacking Davido, Paulo wrote:
“Please make una leave Davido alone, people. Davido spoke the truth. Nigeria’s current economic state is so bad. With global companies leaving and local businesses facing significant losses, it’s clear we’re facing challenges. Let’s acknowledge the reality and work towards a better future. God bless Nigeria.”
GWG.ng reports that the support for Davido from Paulo comes against the background of what some perceive as an orchestrated campaign by pro-government forces to ridicule the musician over his claims concerning Nigeria.
