The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has announced that a new tariff plan will take effect on December 13, 2024.

The Commission stated that it will introduce updated tariff plans for telecom operators on this date.

This announcement was made in Abuja on November 28, 2024, by the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the NCC, Dr. Aminu Maida.

Initially, the new tariff plan was scheduled to be unveiled on October 27, 2024, but the date was later rescheduled.

According to Dr. Maida, the new tariff system aims to simplify telecom services for consumers and make data and airtime usage more straightforward. It is expected to eliminate confusion and offer relief to users.

As part of the plan, telecom operators will be limited to offering a maximum of seven tariff plans.

The NCC also addressed concerns about fast data depletion. It explained that the issue is not caused by telecom operators but is influenced by the type of phone a user owns, which affects data consumption.

To help consumers better understand these issues, the NCC is conducting awareness campaigns. These efforts aim to guide users in choosing appropriate devices and managing their data usage effectively.

Through these initiatives, the NCC seeks to create a more transparent and user-friendly telecommunications environment in Nigeria.
