Breaking: Tinubu Makes New Major Appointment
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has named Shamseldeen Babatunde Ogunjimi as the Acting Accountant General of the Federation (AGF), effective immediately.
This announcement was made on Tuesday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Information and Strategy.
Ogunjimi’s appointment follows the pre-retirement leave of the incumbent AGF, Dr. Oluwatoyin Sakirat Madein, who is set to retire officially on March 7, 2025, upon reaching the statutory retirement age in the civil service.
In his statement, President Tinubu expressed confidence in Ogunjimi’s capabilities, highlighting his extensive experience in financial management across public and private sectors.
“As a career civil servant and the most senior director in the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF), Mr. Ogunjimi brings over 30 years of expertise. He has served as Director of Funds at the OAGF and Director of Finance and Accounts at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,” Tinubu remarked.
Ogunjimi, a seasoned financial expert, is a chartered accountant, certified fraud examiner, chartered stockbroker, and chartered security and investment specialist. His academic achievements include a Bachelor’s degree in Accountancy and a Master’s in Finance and Accounting.
President Tinubu emphasized that Ogunjimi’s appointment would ensure a seamless transition in Nigeria’s treasury operations and consolidate ongoing treasury policy reforms under his administration.
“The Office of the Accountant General of the Federation plays a critical role in our nation’s treasury management. Mr. Ogunjimi’s competence and wealth of experience will strengthen this vital institution as we pursue our economic reform agenda,” the president added.
President Tinubu also commended Dr. Madein for her dedication and selfless service to Nigeria during her tenure as AGF, describing her leadership as exemplary.
