Bovi Fires Back at Critics Over Gentle Parenting Comments

Nigerian comedian and actor, Bovi Ugboma, has responded to backlash over his comments on gentle parenting, which sparked controversy after he revealed that his son breaks televisions when angry.

Bovi initially made the statement during an interview on The Honest Bunch Podcast with Nedu, where he shared his parenting approach and reiterated his stance against physically disciplining children. However, his remark that his son broke televisions “for the fun of it” triggered strong reactions online.

Addressing the uproar on his X (formerly Twitter) account, Bovi clarified that his choice of words had been misunderstood. He explained that his intention was to emphasize the importance of gentle parenting, maintaining that he does not support physical punishment as a disciplinary method.

Taking a swipe at his critics, Bovi stated that those who prefer to physically discipline their children are free to do so, but he remains firm in his approach.

He wrote: “I don go trigger angry people because of the phrase I used – ‘For the fun of it.’ Make una no vex. In trying to color my point, I’ve offended a shallow mob. You don’t have to agree with me. If you have children you want to beat, enjoy. My papa no physically beat me and I turned out almost ok.”

While some support Bovi advocacy for non-violent discipline, others continue to criticize his remarks as enabling bad behavior.
