Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has revoked 762 plots of land in the Maitama 1 District, Abuja, over unpaid Certificates of Occupancy (C-of-O) fees with President Muhammadu Buhari among the top victims.

The affected plots of land situated in one of Abuja’s most exclusive areas whose revocations were ordered by Wike, belonged to prominent Nigerians and organizations, including former President Muhammadu Buhari.

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) also issued a stern two-week ultimatum to 614 additional landholders, warning that failure to settle outstanding Rights of Occupancy (R-of-O) fees would result in the withdrawal of their titles.

According to the FCTA’s notice, notable names among those whose C-of-O have been revoked include the Muhammadu Buhari Trust Foundation, owned by former President Muhammadu Buhari; former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen; and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen. Others on the list include Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume and his wife, Regina, and former governors Rochas Okorocha (Imo), Ben Ayade (Cross River), Seriake Dickson (Bayelsa), Shaaba Lafiagi (Kwara), Ahmad Sani (Zamfara), and Kabiru Gaya (Kano).

Former and serving lawmakers affected include Senate Chief Whip Tahir Monguno, former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Chibudom Nwuche, former Senate Leader Teslim Folarin, Enyinnaya Abaribe, Dino Melaye, Barnabas Gemade, Shehu Sani, and Abdulmumin Jibrin. Others are Nnenna Ukeje, Obinna Chidoka, Smart Adeyemi, Agom Jarigbe, Kingsley Chinda, and Lynda Ikpeazu.

Also impacted are former Senate Presidents Iyorchia Ayu and Ameh Ebute, as well as former Ebonyi State Governor and ex-Minister of Education Sam Egwu, former Aviation Minister Stella Oduah, and the current Deputy Governor of Edo State, Dennis Idahosa.

Wike’s revocation exercise has sparked significant reactions, with many interpreting the move against Buhari and others as part of his administration’s commitment to restore accountability in Abuja’s land administration. The minister has consistently emphasized that strict enforcement of laws is necessary, even if it inconveniences the elite.

The affected individuals and organizations have been urged to promptly settle their outstanding obligations to avoid further penalties, as the FCT Administration remains firm in its stance to recover due revenues and ensure fair land use across the territory.
