Hollywood actor Denzel Washington has taken a new spiritual step, becoming a gospel minister. On December 21, 2024, he was baptized and received his minister’s license at the Kelly Temple Church of God in Christ in Harlem, New York City.

Washington, 69, has been open about his Christian faith for many years and is a member of the West Angeles Church of God in Christ in Los Angeles.

In a previous interview, Washington shared, “A part of me still says, ‘Maybe, Denzel, you’re supposed to preach.'” This new step in his faith journey is seen as a significant milestone. The baptism ceremony, which was live-streamed, was attended by family, friends, and church members. With his minister’s license, Washington now has the opportunity to be ordained in the future.

This decision comes as Washington is transitioning from acting to more behind-the-scenes roles, such as directing and producing. While he has made it clear that he is not retiring from acting, he is exploring new career interests. His recent work includes directing ‘A Journal for Jordan’ and starring in ‘Gladiator II’.

Washington’s choice to become a minister has been widely praised by fans and colleagues. His commitment to giving back is reflected in both his career and charitable efforts. He has donated millions to various causes, including $1 million to Save Africa’s Children and $1 million to Wiley College to support its debate team.
