Cyberbullying: Speed Darlington To Face Burna Charges Before Christmas
A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the arraignment of Nigerian singer Darlington Okoye, better known as Speed Darlington, after he had been detained by the police for nearly a month.
Speed Darlington was arrested in Owerri, Imo State, for allegedly cyberbullying his colleague, Burna Boy (Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu).
Speed Darlington’s lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, shared on social media that the court granted their application for fundamental rights and ordered the singer to be arraigned within 48 hours. “Our FREP application for Speed Darlington has been granted by the court. He is to be arraigned within 48 hours or released. Issues around injustice may take time, but justice will always prevail,” Adeyanju said.
In an interview, Adeyanju also claimed that powerful forces were behind Darlington’s arrest and continued detention. He further stated that the Nigerian Police Force had violated the singer’s rights. Adeyanju emphasized that Darlington had no intention of jumping bail, noting that he had returned from an emergency trip to the United States.
To secure his release, Adeyanju revealed that they had filed a fundamental rights proceeding at the Federal High Court.
