FCT police deployment Christmas

The Police Command in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has announced the deployment of 3,180 officers to ensure the safety of residents throughout the 2024 Christmas season.

The announcement was made in a press release issued on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, on behalf of the FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu.

SP Adeh explained that the main focus of this deployment would be to increase security in places of worship, event venues, and other public spaces. She added that additional attention would be given to high-risk areas, including unfinished buildings and informal settlements.

“The Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory, CP Olatunji Disu, has announced the deployment of 3,180 officers across the territory to ensure the safety and security of residents during the 2024 Christmas celebration,” Adeh stated.

She continued, “This initiative aims to enhance visibility at places of worship, event centers, and public spaces while addressing potential security concerns in identified black spots, uncompleted buildings, and shanties. The initiative includes stop-and-search operations, vehicular and foot patrols, and the strategic deployment of Police Rapid Response Squads and Tactical Teams.”

Additionally, the FCT Police Command will work closely with other security agencies to strengthen public safety during the festive season. SP Adeh mentioned that explosive ordnance disposal teams would also conduct security sweeps of key government and public buildings.

“The CP emphasized the importance of cooperation between the police, religious leaders, and owners of recreational facilities to ensure a secure environment,” Adeh said.

CP Disu also extended warm holiday greetings to the Christian community and all FCT residents, reassuring them of the police’s commitment to their safety during the Christmas celebrations. He further urged the public to avoid using fireworks, knockouts, or firecrackers, as they can cause panic.

Residents were also encouraged to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
