While it’s increasingly being stressed that it is important to have enough sleep daily, taking it over the board by oversleeping can lead to some health side-effects on the body.

Here are side-effects of oversleeping many have never thought of.

Heart diseases

Sleeping for a long time has been linked to heart diseases like stroke and heart attack Excessive sleep can lead to neuroendocrine and immune stress, which could prove harmful to cardiovascular health.

Pain and discomfort

When you spend more time sleeping you are always at risk of experiencing back pain, neck pain and headache. It can also result in general body pain. The pain may have emanated from prolonged body inactivity.

Depression

Oversleeping has been linked to increased risk of depression and which on its own has its own side-effects.

Hormonal imbalances

Oversleeping can disrupt the body’s hormonal balance. For  instance, cortisol, a home that regulate various bodily functions, including metabolism and immune system can be affected by excess sleep.

Cognitive performance decline

While napping and adequate sleep are known to improve alertness and performance, oversleeping can have the opposite effect as it could dull the senses due to decreased inactivity on the part of the sleeper.
