Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero has expressed his dissatisfaction with the recent Appeal Court ruling that overturned a Federal High Court order removing Muhammadu Sanusi II as the 16th Emir of Kano. Bayero announced on Sunday that he would challenge the decision at the Supreme Court.

At a press briefing held at the Nasarawa Palace of the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Babba DanAgundi, who initially filed the suit dismissed by the Appeal Court, criticized Sanusi’s reaction to the judgment. “Sanusi did not even understand that he has completely lost out in the whole of the cases at hand,” he said.

DanAgundi also condemned Sanusi’s statements regarding the Appeal Court ruling. “I expressed regrets over remarks by the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, using the Mosque pillar to propagate something that was not true and did not happen at the Appeal Court,” he stated.

Clarifying the essence of their legal challenge, DanAgundi said, “We initially went to Federal High Court seeking the nullification of the repeal law by the State Assembly, which we felt was done haphazardly. The issue was not about the Assembly’s powers to repeal laws, but about the lack of fair hearing for the 15th Emir, Aminu Ado Bayero. He was removed without being given a chance to defend himself.”

DanAgundi further warned Sanusi to cease presenting himself as the Emir of Kano and accused him of activities that could disrupt peace in the state. He urged the Police and the DSS to intervene, alleging that Sanusi was “moving around with thugs.”

“Sanusi cannot claim victory until the Supreme Court has made its final judgment,” DanAgundi added. He emphasized that the Appeal Court ruling did not declare Sanusi as the Emir but rather highlighted procedural issues in Bayero’s removal.

“The Attorney General and Speaker of the Kano State Assembly sought to prevent Bayero from parading himself as Emir, but the Appeal Court rejected their position, affirming that Bayero was not given fair hearing. This clearly shows that Bayero remains the Emir of Kano,” he concluded.
