Ngige Damns Labour, Inaugurates NSITF Board Without Kokori
By Labour Correspondent
A day after the presidency gave endorsed his actions over the National Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) board, Chris Ngige on Monday inaugurated the board of the fund.
Ngige, minister of labour and employment, stuck to Austin Enejomo-Isire as chairman of the board against the quest by organized labour that veteran labour leader, Frank Kokori who was earlier nominated as chairman of the board be sworn in.
The faceoff between labour and Dr. Ngige reached a climax last week when labour picketed his residence and the picketers were driven off by thugs with several labour leaders being bruised.
On Sunday the presidency issued a statement backing the actions of the minister that Austin Enejomo-Isire should be the chairman of the NSITF while Kokori who was earlier nominated as chairman of the more prestigious NSITF should be chairman of the Pa Michael Imodu Labour Institute, Ilorin, Kwara State.
No reason has been given for the switch, but labour have insinuated that Kokori was removed from the NSITF because he was not pliable.
Labour is yet to react to the inauguration.
