Tinubu Pays Tribute To Late Niger Delta Leader Edwin Clark

President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Chief Edwin Clark, leader of the Pan-Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF).

In a statement released on Tuesday, the president acknowledged Chief Clark’s significant role in advocating for the rights of the Niger Delta people. He described him as a dedicated leader whose contributions to the nation spanned several decades.

The president highlighted Clark’s service at different levels of government, including his roles as a councilor and a cabinet member at both state and federal levels. He praised him as a strong advocate for resource control, economic fairness, and environmental justice in the Niger Delta.

On behalf of the federal government, the president extended his condolences to Chief Clark’s family, the Ijaw people, the Niger Delta region, and the Delta State government. He described the late leader’s death as a great loss to the nation.

Reflecting on his legacy, the president emphasized that Chief Clark was a towering figure in Nigerian politics for nearly six decades. He noted that Clark was a fearless leader who always stood by his convictions, even when it meant standing alone.

The president stated: “Chief Clark spoke for the Niger Delta. He spoke for the nation. His views and interventions on national issues were distinct and patriotic.

“Pa Clark, a lawyer and educationist, believed in a united Nigeria, and until his last breath, he never stopped reaching out to people from different parts of the country to work together to preserve national unity based on justice and equity.
