UNIBEN To Increase Undergraduate Programmes – VC

The University of Benin is increasing the number of undergraduate programmes following the accreditation of more courses by the National Universities Commission, NUC, Prof. Faraday Orunwense, the vice-chancellor of the institution has said.

He discolsed this on Saturday when the university matriculated 11,772 students out of the estimated 75,000 applicants ganted admission for the 2018/2019 academic session.

The matriculation ceremony took place at the Akin Deko Auditorium, Ugbowo campus, and was graced by university governing council members, students, parents, guardian and well wishers.

Prof. Orunwense welcomed the matriculating students to the institution and charged them to co-operate with the university management telling them to remain focussed on their academics.

“University of Benin as a result of the academic strides it has made has earned international recognition and awards and continues to receive large number of applications from students for admission into the university on a yearly basis.

“It is also placed on record that NUC has approved more courses for the University of Benin, thereby creating room to admit more students, for the 2018/2019 academic session. University of Benin received over 75,000 applicants, while a total of 11,772 applicants were given provisional admission and are matriculating in this academic session,” the vice-chancellor noted.

On his part, the Public Relations Officer of the institution, Mr. Michael Osayuki charged the new students to shun all forms of social vices within and outside the institution, as engaging in such vices could shorten their stay in the institution, if apprehended by security agencies.

The high point of the matriculation ceremony was the signing of the matriculation oath form by the matriculating students.
