A police inspector allegedly went mad in Calabar, opening fire on traders, leaving several dead and many others injured.

A tragic incident occurred on Sunday at the Watt Market area in Calabar, Cross River State, when a police officer allegedly opened fire on civilians.

Reports indicate that the officer, identified as an inspector, stepped out of a nearby police station with his weapon and started shooting.

A video shared online captured the chaotic scene, showing at least one lifeless body on the ground. According to eyewitness reports, several traders were killed, while others sustained injuries from the gunfire.

One social media account that posted the footage claimed, “S@D‼️ Happen in Calabar this Sunday morning, an inspector of police ran m@d, open fire openly K!ll$ marketers and some !njured.”

The Cross River State Police Command responded to the viral video, confirming the incident. While they did not provide full details, they assured the public that the situation was under control.

“The matter has been handled this morning and the inspector is in detention. A press release will be released in a short while,” the police stated.

Authorities have yet to disclose the officer’s name or the exact number of casualties. A formal statement is expected to clarify the details of the shooting.
