Delta 2023: Okowa Machine Rules Out Delta North, South
Potential 2023 governorship aspirants from Delta North and Delta South Senatorial Districts have been told to rest their ambitions as the Ifeanyi Okowa political machine is determined to pass the baton to Delta Central, a close associate of the Delta State governor has said.
Dr. Kingsley Emu, the Delta State commissioner for economic planning who disclosed this at the weekend said power rotation had come to stay in the state with the successive transmission of power among the three senatorial zones in the state since 1999 every eight years.
Emu who is embedded in the Okowa inner caucus was sacked from the Emmanuel Uduaghan cabinet in 2014 on account of his loyalty to Okowa’s political aspiration as then viciously opposed by the then incumbent governor.
Speaking at a workshop on Strategic Political Communication In Governance; organised by the Office of the Executive Assistant to Delta State Governor on Communications in collaboration with the office of the Secretary to Delta State Government in Asaba, Emu said:
“It is important for participants at this very important workshop to understand the gains of power rotation in the state; as it has helped previous governments and the Okowa administration in peace building, socioeconomic and infrastructural development in the three senatorial districts.
“We are not going to jettison power rotation which is why it will be the turn of Delta Central to govern the state from May 29, 2023, for eight years of two tenure under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“As beneficiaries of this political communication capacity building programme, it is your automatic assigned responsibility to project the power rotation agenda of the state alongside other activities in the mainstream and social media.
“Our amiable governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, has done well in his first tenure and his scorecard are in print, which the Executive Assistant on Communications, Dr Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, added to your training pack for this workshop. I encourage you to read the scorecard from cover to cover so as to enable you respond to political detractors with facts and figure.
“As we speak, Gov Okowa is busy inspecting new projects and commissioning roads across the state; which is why you must keep updating yourselves with achievements of government so as to better inform the citizens from time to time,” Emu said.
Former Commissioner in the State and political scientist, Dr Ebenezer Okorodudu, corroborated Dr Emu; and posited that the Urhobo Nation of Delta Central remain committed to the ideals of power rotation as initiated by former governor of the state, Chief James Onanefe Ibori and other leaders in the three senatorial districts.
