The outgoing Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Barr. Onofiok Luke has thanked former Speakers of the House for the support given him during his stewardship of the legislative house.

Speaking when he hosted his predecessors he told them he would soon be joining the elite club of former speakers with a vow to continue to sustain the image of the house even after his ascension as a member of the House of Assembly.

Among the former Speakers who were at the reception were the pioneer Speaker, Rt. Hon. Nse Ekanem, Rt. Hon. Peter Linus Umoh, Rt. Hon. Ignatius Edet. Rt. Hon. Anietie Etuk and Rt. Hon. Sam Ikon.

Welcoming them, Luke thanked them for the support they extended to him these past four years which he noted enabled him to succeed in office as Speaker of the Sixth Assembly. While wishing that the incoming Seventh Assembly would perform even better than the current legislature in their legislative engagement, the outgoing Speaker solicited that the former Speakers should equally extend same support and advice they gave him to who ever would lead the next Assembly.

“I have decided to host you today as former Speakers of this legislature and to say thank you for the tremendous support you have extended to me. Your support has made me succeed. I cherish the love that you have shown me.

It has been quite a tremendous working relationship, the support you’ve given to me that made me run this office very well. I want to so thank all of you for working for the success of Governor Udom Emmanuel.

Responding on behalf of the former Speakers, Rt. Hon. Barr. Nse Ekanem congratulated Barr. Luke for successfully piloting affairs of the legislature in the past four years, and wished him well as he would be moving to the National Assembly. He hailed the Speaker of the House for giving the former Speakers a sense of belonging.

“On behalf of former Speakers, I want to express our heartfelt appreciation to you. Mr. Speaker, you have given us hope, and you have given us a sense of belonging. You’ve made us proud. I also thank you for your ability to carry members of the House along because it’s not easy”.
