Nigerians Praise Adadevoh, Doctor Who Stopped Ebola From Us

Nigerians have taken to the microblogging platform to commemorate Dr Ameyo Stella Adadevoh, the Nigerian doctor who diagnosed the first incident of the deadly Ebola in the country in 2014 and gave her life containing the disease from reaching the rest of the country.

Dr. Adadevoh died on August 19th 2014 from the disease that she so heroically limited from turning into an epidemic in the country.

Dr Ameyo diagnosed Mr. Patrick Sawyer, a Liberian diplomat with the virus in July 14th, 2014 at the First Consultant Hospital, Lagos and led the medical team for his treatment.

She ensured that Sawyer was quarantined while receiving treatment, despite calls from the Liberian Ambassador for his release.

She was confirmed positive for Ebola, August 4th, 2014 and she died fifteen days later, August 19th, 2014.

On the sixth anniversary of her death, many Nigerians have taken to the social media to recount her patriotic and sacrificial impact in stopping the Ebola virus from reaching the rest of the population.

Patrick Sawyer, in quarantine despite pressure from the Liberian government.

When threatened by Liberian officials who wanted the patient to be discharged to attend a conference, she resisted the pressure and said, “for the greater public good” she would not release him.
