Inauguration: Okorocha Turned Away After Losing Six Allies In Imo

Hopes for Rochas Okorocha’s political revival were misty on Tuesday morning after he was denied accreditation on arrival at the National Assembly.

Okorocha had been declared winner of the Imo West Senatorial District election but the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC refused to issue him a Certificate of Return on the claim that the declaration was done under duress by the returning officer.

A Federal High Court in Abuja had last week, however, directed INEC to issue him with the Certificate of Return, an order INEC said it was going to meet to study. INEC has not yet given any update on the issue.

The former governor of Imo State nevertheless arrived the National Assembly early on Tuesday apparently to join other members-elect for the inauguration. GWG.NG learnt that he was turned away.

Unlike other members-elect who were conveyed in a bus from the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Okorocha came on his own and left after a brief meeting with the Clerk of the National Assembly.

The slight adds to further political embarrassment for the former governor who on the eve of the National Assembly inauguration lost six of his political allies in the Imo State House of Assembly.

On the last day of its session, five members of the Action Alliance, AA who defected to the party in solidarity with Okorocha defected to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

The five who defected were The AA lawmakers who defected were, Mike Iheanaetu (Aboh Mbaise), Victor Onyewuchi (Owerri West), Ken Agbim (Ahiazu Mbaise) Lloyd Chukwuemeka (Owerri North) and Bruno Ukoha (Ezinihittte Mbaise)
