How Mourinho Massacred Man U In Old Trafford
By Ekene Dike
Tragedy befell Old Trafford as Tottenham destroyed Manchester United 6-1. Speaking minutes after the end of the match, Tottenham coach and former Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho said the demolition was the product of great thinking which his team brought into the game.
It was Manchester United’s second defeat on home territory this season. United’s cherished home ground is no longer the fortress it used to be.
Two minutes into the game, Bruno Fernandes gave United a good start with a composed penalty goal after Anthony Martial was fouled in the box by Sanchez.
Tanquay Ndombele cancelled out Manchester United’s opener with an equalizer two minutes later.
Son Heung Min gave Jose Mourinho’s side the lead with Harry Kane providing the assist through an incisive pass to set Son free in order to beat David De Gea in a one on one situation.
Harry Kane extended Tottenham’s lead, shortly after Anthony Martial was sent off in the 29th minute. South Korean international Son scored his second of the game to make it 4-1 just before half time.
Spurs continued to run riot in the second half with free flowing attacking football and Serge Aurier’s overlapping run from his right back position yielded a positive result as he got his name on the scoresheet in the 51st minute.
Talismanic English striker Harry Kane converted from the penalty spot to make the game 6-1 in favor of the visitors after 79 minutes. Manchester United were clearly in disarray throughout the remainder of the game until the referee’s watch indicted full time.
This ignominious defeat for Manchester United means that Ole Gunnar Solksjaer has a lot of questions to answer and Jose Mourinho can be patted on the back for a great tactical showpiece.
