El-Rufai Vows Appeal As Court Strikes Down Anti-Preaching Bill
Governor Nasir El-Rufai has vowed to press an appeal to a higher court after a Kaduna State High Court on Wednesday declared the Religious Bill to regulate preaching in the state illegal. The court affirmed that the bill is against the provisions of the fundamental rights of all those who may take to preaching.
The court decision was also upon the action of the State House of Assembly in forging ahead with processing the bill despite the court order on it to hold action. The judge ruled that the action of the House of Assembly was an “afront to the honourable court.”
The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, PFN had gone to court that the Religious Bill as enunciated by the House of Assembly was a violation of the constitutional provision on freedom of religious freedom.
The Court presided over by Hon Justice D. Gwadah, affirmed that the bill was in violation of the law.
Governor El-Rufai has nevertheless pledged to appeal the court decision.
