Indecent Dressing: Presidency Clears Air On Star Actress

The presidency on Tuesday formally delved into the controversy over issues surrounding Northern Nigeria’s leading star actress, Ms. Rahama Sadau insisting that she has neither been arrested nor arraigned in court.

The presidency’s intervention followed rumours and reports in some sections of the media that the actress had been arrested for arraignment before a sharia court over issues arising from her racy photograph on social media.

Ms. Sadau following negative comments against Islam by some commentators pulled down the photographs and apologized for whatever ill-feelings Muslims may have felt on account of the photograph or the comments associated with it.

It was subsequently alleged that the Inspector General of Police, IGP Muhammad Adamu had ordered the commissioner of police in Kaduna State to investigate the issue.

But the presidency responding formally on twitter on the issue on Tuesday disclaimed the reports of her arrest.

Personal assistant to the President on New Media, Bashir Ahmad in a tweet on Tuesday on the development said:

I don’t see any good intention in spreading the fake news about Rahama Sadau, I have said it before and I am saying it now, @PoliceNG didn’t arrest Rahama or anyone else. Any news about her arrest or her being sentenced to death should be regarded as fake news and incitement.

His assertion was upon the claim by an Islamic cleric, Lawal Gusau that presidency officials in league with a commissioner of police were protecting Ms. Sadau from prosecution.

Gusau had authored the petition to the IGP for the arrest of the actress and trial before a Sharia Court.
