The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Wednesday inaugurated set up a high powered committee to unravel the circumstances that led to the emergence of a contrary list of principal officers in the House of Representatives to that proposed by the party’s leadership.

The 10 man committee chaired by former Senate President Adolphus Wabara is to investigate and find a way out of the imbroglio that arose after Rep. Ndudi Elumelu was announced as minority leader against the recommendation of Hon. Kingsley Chinda as proposed by the PDP national leadership.

Other members of the committee are Senator Ben Obi, Hon. Yunana Iliya, Senator Ibrahim Mantu, and Hon. Austin Opara.

Also in the committee are Senator Stella Omu, Rt. Hon. Magreth Icheen, Hon. Hassan Hyat, Senator Abdul Ningi and Professor Wale Oladipo (Secretary).

The party’s National Vice Chairman (South), Elder Yemi Akinwonmi who inaugurated the committee on Wednesday said the party’s decision to resolve the matter was in line with its inclination towards internal democracy.

“What we are doing is a display of internal democracy. This is the advantage PDP has over other political parties in Nigeria. This is what brought us to the level we are, respect for internal democracy.

“We solve issues by dialogue, by discussions, by looking at the two sides of the coin. This you will never find in other political parties in Nigeria. If you go to our sister party, you will see crises, placards being displayed, demonstrations here and there but you can never find such in the PDP because we are blessed with people that are knowledgeable, people that are intelligent, people that can think ahead of others.

“And God has given us the grace of eminent Nigerians that have served and contributed to the growth of this country across the length and breadth of Nigeria. When we have issues like this, we call on them. They are people that have seen every thing about this country.

Responding, Senator Wabara said that with the abundance of the experience of the committee’s members that they would resolve the matter to the best interest of the party.

“We will look into all the areas as we have men and women of proven integrity. The National Assembly, is where politics starts and ends. So, we will go in there and unearth what happened and even before three weeks, get back to the party,” he said in his brief acceptance speech.
