10 Arrested As Lekki Toll Gate Protester Speaks
At least 10 persons have been arrested for supposedly trying to organsise a protest at the Lekki Toll Gate in Lagos, GWG has gathered. Meanwhile, a Lekki Toll Gate protester involved in organising the protest justified the action on the derailment of the EndSARS inquiry.
The toll gate was on Saturday morning swarmed with heavily armed policemen who took up strategic positions all over to dissuade protesters from occupying the toll gate.
Twitter users were saying on Saturday morning that the aim of the organisers of the protest to occupy the toll gate had been partially fulfilled.
The arrested persons violated the strong warnings by federal, state and security agencies against the protest.
On Friday evening, the police had given its strong determination to stop the protest with a show of force in Lagos Island.
The show of force was reinforced at the toll gate with the heavy presence of policemen especially operatives of the Lagos RRS.
Damilola Adenola, a Lekki toll gate protester was seen in a twitter post justifying the need for the protest from inside the Black Maria where he was put by the police.
He said that the inquiry constituted after the EndSARS protest was heading towards injustice.
“While the inquiry was going on hoping for justice, we realized that the inquiry was not going to arrive at the destination of justice. It was obvious that it wasis injustice that will come out of the panel.
“And that is why people have taken to the streets today to show their displeasure.
“That we want justice. After 100 days nobody has been brought to book. The killer officers, none has been brought to book, and they are still denying. That is why people have taken courage to be here today to protest. And it doesn’t matter how we are brutalized we will not lose our right to protest.”
Meanwhile there were assertions that some of the protesters had shifted base to the nearby Ikoyi-Lekki toll gate. Security forces on getting a hint of it, according to GWG sources dispatched officers to the area.
