Senator Ifeanyi Ararume has been upheld by a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC in the last Imo North senatorial bye-election.

The court presided over by Justice Taiwo Taiwo on Thursday as such ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission to declare Ararume as the winner of the bye-election. The court also asked INEC to issue Ararume with a certificate of return.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that the election took place on December 5, 2020 with the APC parading two candidates in the persons of Senator Ararume and Mr. Francis Ibezim who was supposedly backed by Governor Hope Uzodimma and the minister of state for education, Hon. Emeka Nwajiuba.

Justice Taiwo in the judgment said Ararume’s validity as the candidate was impressed upon the disqualification of his rival, Francis Ibezim who Ararume had told the court was invalidated by the courts upon alleged forgery.

His suit was, however, countered by both Ibezim and the APC. The APC declared that Ararume was not the party’s candidate and should not benefit from the ruling.
