Controversy Over Match That Got Siasia FIFA Life Ban

Samson Sisasia was on Friday banned for life from all football activities by FIFA after he was found guilty of match-fixing.

The bad news for the former Nigerian coach and player is coming in the wake of the continued detention of his mother by kidnappers who took her away from her Adoni, Sagbama Local Government Area home in Bayelsa State.

The exact nature of the allegation against him was not directly stated but FIFA in a statement said he was sanctioned in connection with the investigation into the activities of Wilson Raj Perumal, who on his part had earlier confessed to international match-fixing.
The puzzle for many is whether he helped to fix a match in favour of Nigeria or against Nigeria.

Samson played as a striker for Nigeria and subsequently as manager of the country’s national team.

In a statement on Friday, the adjudicatory chamber of FIFA’s independent ethics committee averred that the investigation of Siasia which began in February found Siasia “guilty of having accepted that he would receive bribes in relation to the manipulation of matches in violation of the FIFA Code of Ethics.”

Besides, Siasia is expected to pay a fine of 50,000 Swiss francs ($50,000, 46,000 euros).

Siasia became the third African to be banned by Fifa upon the probe of Perumal. Earlier, former Sierra Leone FA official Abubakarr Kabba and former Botswana FA official Mooketsi Kgotlele were suspended in July for five years and for life respectively.
