The group warned President Muhammadu Buhari to stop reminding the Igbo-speaking people of Nigeria how he (Buhari) participated in the pogrom that left more than three million dead.

HURIWA accused Buhari, of an excessive penchant for threatening Igbo-speaking Nigerians. This flows from his recent threat to deal with young people fighting for self-government in the southeast.

Buhari had on Tuesday after a security conference on the attacks on the facilities of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in the Southeast, categorically threatened to deal with those who, according to him, want to destroy his government.

Buhari said that those people or groups will receive the impact of their lives, as they will be treated in a language that they will understand.

HURIWA wondered how Buhari could launch such a threat at alleged members of self-determination organizations such as the Outcast Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), the Movement for the Survival of Biafra (MASSOB) and many other organizations.

In a statement signed by his National Coordinator, Emmanuel Onwubiko, HURIWA, however, asked Buhari to stop threatening war against any part of the country and behave like a statesman except if he wants to tell the world that he is a warlord.

The Human Rights group noted that armed Fulani herdsmen are allowed to kill thousands of farmers and destroy communities, but Buhari allegedly pampers them and has never threatened to bring war to his stronghold.

The group noted that whenever issues affecting Southeastern Nigeria become involved, Buhari speaks with such hatred to such an extent that it becomes apparent that he is still not tired of waging a war against Southeastern Nigeria even after he has fought in the Nigerian side for 30 months against the then Republic of Biafra.

“Please, President Muhammadu Buhari stop reminding us Igbo of how he participated in the pogroms that resulted in the deaths of more than 3 million Igbo in the late 1960s and even after destroying the then Eastern Region, General Yakubu Gowon , the then wartime junta leader, failed to rehabilitate or rebuild the destroyed eastern region, but after the people rebuilt southeastern Nigeria with their efforts, President Buhari now threatens to launch another civil war against Ndigbo alone. because a group of boys are constructively requesting self-determination.

“This is outrageous, provocative and sadistic. We condemn this dangerous rhetoric and hate speech with all our hearts and minds and we are warning the world that Muhammadu Buhari plans to carry out another pogrom against Ndigbo. “
