Rejoicing In Okara’s Camp As News Of Dickson’s Endorsement Arrives
By Asolo Eyedoude
With about 48 hours to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP governorship primaries in Bayesla State, there were indications that Governor Serikae Dickson has made his choice of a successor in the person of fellow lawyer, Kemella Okara.
Okara, a former secretary to the State Government, SSG was being promoted as the governor’s desired successor as he appeared to remove the winds off the sail of the former favoured aspirant, Senator Douye Diri.
The emergence of Okara followed widespread reservations among some of the governor’s close associates of the difficulty in pushing through Diri’s candidacy who had earlier been reportedly penciled down.
Why the governor was settling down on Okara has not been specifically mentioned, but the gravitation towards him after words came to the aspirant’s Biogbolo’s campaign headquarters.
The governor’s hand in Okara’s aspiration was further given further strength with the naming of the governor’s close associate, Senator Iniatimi Rufus-Spiff as the director-general of the Kemela Campaign Organisation.
The news of the governor’s apparent decision was received with indifference in the camp of Timi Alaibe who has become the strongest challenger to Dickson’s succession strategy.
“It is not news to us we had always suspected that it would be either Diri or Okara.
“Okara just like Diri is also not marketable and we know that no one can beat principal, (Alaibe) in a free and fair primary,” the Alaibe associate said on Sunday.
