Miniwar In Kwara As Sons, Uncle Fight Over Who Inherits Family Head’s Widow
There was a miniwar at Ikoroku village in the Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara state on Wednesday; not between communities, but among a Fulani family.
A man identified as Babbi Aliyu was seriously injured and currently receiving treatment at the teaching hospital in llorin.
According to reports, there was a disagreement in the family over who would inherit the wife of the family head who died recently.
The sons of the late family head, Alhaji Bello, had risen against their father’s junior brother who tried to lay claim to the woman.
According to them, the move indicated their uncle masterminded the killing of their father.
Confirming the report, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) spokesman, Babawale Afolabi, said operatives in Kwara State Command prevented the clash among the Fulani family members from escalating.
In his reaction, Afolabi said, “The NSCDC operatives in Kaiama got a distress call and rushed to the scene to prevent further clash.
“According to report we got from our divisional office in Kaiama, after the death of one Alhaji Bello, his younger brother took his wife which did not go down well with the children of the deceased. They accused their uncle of complicity in the death of their father.
“The children of late Alhaji Bello vowed to take back their father’s wife from their uncle and this later ensued in a free-for-all.
“One Babbi Aliyu was attacked with cutlass which left him with multiple injuries.”
