PDP Lawmakers Deny Calling For Secondus Resignation

House of Representatives members elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have debunked reports that they are demanding for the resignation of embattled chairman of the party, Uche Secondus.

Earlier in the day, a caucus comprising the opposition party’s lawmakers at the lower legislative chamber had passed a vote of no confidence on the leadership of the party under Secondus.

The caucus in a communique signed by its chairman, Kingsley Chinda (PDP- Rivers), at the end of an online meeting on the current crisis bedeviling the party, asked Secondus to resign to save the party from collapse.

Chinda noted that the caucus call for resignation of Secondus was informed by majority of the party members’ dissatisfaction with Secondus management of the party’s affairs and the attendant accusation of inept leadership against the troubled helmsman.

Reacting to the development, Ndudi Elumelu, Minority Leader and Leader of PDP, House of Representatives, disassociated the party’s lawmaker from the caucus position.

He said the purported virtual meeting during which the consensus to demand for the resignation of the chairman was reached is a violation of known protocol.

Elumelu added that the lawmakers are working with the party’s hierarchy and stakeholders to find a lasting solution to the crisis rocking the party.

He said “If such a meeting held, it was without the knowledge of the leadership of the Minority Caucus, and therefore in breach of established procedure.

*Meanwhile, we are working in concert with organs of the party to ensure sustainable resolution of the current challenges that will be in the overall interest of the party and Nigerians.

“We appeal to all party faithful, particularly PDP members in the House of Representatives, to exercise caution and patience as the party addresses the present leadership challenges”
