A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) support group, identifying itself as PDP Action 2023, has charged Atiku Abubakar to step aside from the 2023 nomination process saying that his only interest in the party is its presidential ticket and never helping to solve its problems.

The group said that as an example that at the peak of the ongoing leadership crisis in the PDP that Atiku left the country to stay with his new Moroccan wife instead of attending to the crisis triggered by the move to push Prince Uche Secondus out of the office of national chairman.

The group thus adviced Atiku to direct his energies towards the office of chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees as it added that at 77, Atiku would be too old to be president in 2023.

The group’s statement obtained by  GreenWhiteGreen GWG was issued by its chairman, Mr. Rufus Omeire.

The group’s assertion is against the background of claims that Atiku is about the most outstanding presidential material in the PDP with the capacity to challenge whoever the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC may field.

However, countering the narrative on Atiku, the group said:
“It is very shameful that since he lost the presidential election, he moved to Dubai, abandoning all members of PDP, all the stakeholders, and millions of ordinary Nigerians who voted for him and PDP in 2019.

“It is a betrayal of trust for Abubakar to neglect the feelings and sacrifices of ordinary voters who supported him and PDP in 2019.

“Now 2023 elections are once again at hand, he has returned and started politicking once again. Apparently, the only thing he is very good at is politics.”

Noting what it claimed was Atiku’s detachment from the crisis in the party, the group said:

“As the PDP was embroiled in crises, two weeks ago, one would have thought that as the last flag bearer of the party, that he would stay engaged to find a solution. No.

“He rather traveled to Morocco to see his new wife. Of course, he is entitled to his family life and privileges,” the PDP group said in its assertions against Atiku who is undoubtedly the leading presidential aspirant in the party.

“We think that time has come for Abubakar to step aside and allow others, preferably the younger generation, to step forward.

“He can be asked to take the position of the Chairman PDP Board of Trustees where he will play an advisory role to younger politicians, as an elder statesman.”
