The police in Benin and Chief Lucky Igbinedion including his siblings have launched a manhunt for a maid hired to look after the former governor’s mother but who reportedly strangled her to death.

Maria Igbinedion was reported to have died on Thursday, December 2, 2021. She was aged 85. The octogenarian mother of the two-time governor of Edo State, however, did not die on account of old age or sickness but was reportedly strangled to death by her maid, according to reports.

Madam Maria Igbinedion who had been confined to a wheel chair since she clocked 80, according to reports was strangled to death by the Cross River State born maid.

The maid after strangling her reportedly ransacked the home in Ugbo, Benin-City, the Edo State for money and jewelries before making an escape.

She has not been seen since.

The obviously angry family members have vowed to mobilise resources to track the fleeing maid to any part of the world she may run to so as to bring her to justice and that threat may involve arresting her family members in Cross River State.

The late Madam Maria Igbinedion was the first wife of Chief Gabriel Igbinedion, the Esama of Benin. They, however, separated in the sixties. She is survived by the former governor, Bright Igbinedion, Patience and Philomena as well as grandchildren.’
