The Akwa Ibom chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC was on Monday descending into another round of crisis after the managing director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Mr. Nsima Ekere emerged winner of a raucous primary election his chief rival claimed was massively rigged.

Senator John Akpanudoedehe, a veteran opposition leader in the state who was seen as Ekere’s chief rival at a press conference in Uyo also denied slapping a close associate of Ekere’s, that is Senator Ita Enang during the heat of the election.

Ekere polled 160, 458 votes to beat other three contenders in the race namely; Akpanuoedehe, Bassey Dan-Abia and Edet Efretuei who polled 2,015, 4,189 votes and 1,234 votes respectively.

Akpanudoedehe also alleged that three of his close supporters were killed in the violence he said was sparked by agents of Ekere.

He gave their names as Inyang Effiong, Ini Ward 7; Udeme Effanga, Southern Uruan Ward 1, and Emmanuel Asuquo (an engineer) Etim Ekpo.

He said: “Soon after, violence took over perpetrated by supporters of my opponent just to create confusion. Reports shared to me and my situation room gave a graphic detail of the fact that forms found their ways into private homes of key supporters of my opponent across the state.

“What is more worrisome is the fact that in Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District, forms for Obot Akara, Ikot Ekpene and Essien Udim  local government areas were driven to the waiting arms of a relative of the senator representing the area.

“In the meantime, I have lost three supporters by gunshots released by supporters of one of my opponents. Property of my supporters across the state had been destroyed, lives threatened.

The grassroots politician also denied claims on social media and making the rounds that he, Akpanudoedehe also denied claims that he slapped Senator Ita Enang.
