Senate Backtracks, Approves Entire N189 Billion INEC Election Budget

After past wavering, the Senate on Wednesday approved the entire N189 billion budget requested by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC for the conduct of the 2019 General Election.

The Senate decision was upon the report of the Senator Danjuma Goje led Committee on Appropriation.

Giving the reason for the approval, Senator Goje said “This committee has approved the entire N189bn elections budget INEC proposed for the 2019 polls which will be tabled on the floors of both chambers today for final approval.

“The other components  of the N242bn the President requested to be vired  in the 2018 budget for conduct of the 2019 general elections will be considered today after meeting heads of the affected security agencies like the National Security Adviser, Babagana Mungono, Inspector General of Police , Ibrahim Idris, Director General of Department of State Services etc.”
