Fayose Appears In Lagos Court

Former Governor Ayodele Fayose was on Monday morning remanded in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC following his appearance before a Federal High Court in Lagos on an 11 count charge of conspiracy and money laundering.

Fayose was arraigned before Justice Mojisola Olatoregun who said he would take his plea for bail on Wednesday. He was arraigned by the EFCC which was represented at the hearing by Rotimi Oyedepo.

Fayose who is represented by Mr. Kanu Agabi (SAN) is accused of receiving N1.2 billion from the Federal Government to fund his 2014 campaign, funds which the prosecution said he out to have known were proceeds of an unlawful act.

Fayose who was arraigned alongside his company, Spotless Limited both pleaded not guilty.

Fayose wore a long sleeve shirt did not look bowed when he was brought to court around 8.30 a.m. on Monday morning. He handed over as governor a week ago and was immediately picked up by the EFCC.

Among those present in court was the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP chieftain, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode who said he was in court to show solidarity with Fayose told correspondents at the court:

“I’m here to let people know that he’s not alone, I know what he’s going through because I’ve been there before.”
