Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State was on Tuesday under pressure after his rival for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP governorship ticket, Hon. Emmanuel Ibeshi dragged him to court seeking to stop the party from fielding him a return ticket.

Ibeshi’s move was upon the claim that the party denied him participation in the governorship primaries despite purchasing the forms to participate in the contest.

Ibeshi said he expended N194 million in purchasing the form and preparing himself for the contest. He has also asked the court to compel the party and Governor Ayade to pay him damages to the tune of N1 billion.

Ibeshi who is represented by his lawyer Godwin Adole, an Abuja based lawyer put the PDP, Governor Ayade and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC as defendants in the suit.

In his statement of claims he sought for among others a “declaration that the purported emergence of the 2nd Defendant as the 1st Defendant’s governorship candidate, from the very unconstitutional process that excluded the Plaintiff was base, illegal and void under the law.”
