NLC strike on tuesday

Plans for a nationwide industrial action from November 6 may be shelved after the National Industrial Court ordered the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), to shelve plans for the strike.

Justice Sanusi Kado gave the order following an ex parte motion brought to the court by the Solicitor General of the Federation, Dayo Apata.

Justice Kado following the order adjourned hearing on the substantive motion to November 8.

The NLC and TUC had given notice of the strike upon the failure of the bodies to get the federal and state governments to reach an agreement on a new National Minimum Wage.

The government had offered N22,500 as the new Minimum Wage while organized labour insisted on a minimum of N30,000.

In giving the order, Justice Kado said that if the strike were allowed that it would lead to the dislocation of business and social services.
