Fleeing Nigerien Murder Suspect Caught After Ten Years

A Niger Republic national who had been on the run for ten years on Tuesday blamed anger and mental imbalance for his action in stabbing a Nigerian citizen to death after he was recently apprehended. The culprit, Isa Idrisa was paraded on Tuesday by the Nigerian Immigration Service, Nigerians after he was recently apprehended.

He was paraded by the comptroller of the NIS in Jigawa State, Alhaji Garba Abdul on Tuesday morning. He disclosed that Idrisa stabbed one Suleiman Adamu in Hadeja in 2008 and following the incident fled to his home country, Niger.

He was apprehended in the border area between the two countries precisely between Maigatari and Gumel by men of the NIS who were on patrol in the area. He was found with different charms when he was picked up.

Speaking on the incident that happened ten years ago, he said: “I had a misunderstanding with the deceased and we fought at a political rally in 2008 during former Gov. Ibrahim Turaki’s regime.

“I committed the offence out of anger, I am therefore appealing for leniency because I am not mentally alright,’’

The case he said had now been handed over to the police.
