Dalung Promises Increased Support For Plateau IDPs

The Minister of Youth and Sports Barrister Solomon Dalung has promised to solicit additional support for young Internally Displaced Persons in Plateau State following the humanitarian crisis in the area.

Barrister Dalung made the pledge when the Executive Council of the Church of Christ in Nations COCIN paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja on Tuesday.

He noted that families had lost their homes , farmlands, lives and property following the killings in the state and promised that he will consider the youths in the area as the ministry’s priority in the area of training.

“ In view of the magnitude of loss suffered by churches on the Plateau, the Ministry will give priority to youths in the area for our next training program. We have already trained over a thousand youths under this administration and given them seed money to start off. If we train the young people in the church , they can also be of assistance . We will do more to ensure that we bring succor to ameliorate the hardship suffered by the Church.”

The Minister also called on the church leaders to continue to partner with government to help reach out to the affected people and proffer lasting solutions to the crisis.

“The church should continue to engage the government . The church should not be a back bencher and limit itself to being at the receiving end. When things happen, they should try to engage government, seek explanations and advice government on how to address the situation.

“Let me assure the church that we will continue to do whatever that is possible to ensure that peace and unity return to the country. The President is committed. I want to appeal that as church leaders, we should emphasize the message of tolerance.”

Responding , the leader of the delegation Rev. Dr. Dachollom Datiri, thanked the Minister for facilitating their meeting with President Mohammadu Buhari earlier.

“We are very happy that we were able to come to Abuja to air our concerns about what is happening to us and we will go back home with a good report . On behalf of COCIN, we thank the Minister and we will continue to pray for the peace and coexistence of the country “

The Executive Council of COCIN had earlier visited President Muhammadu Buhari at the State House to express their concerns about the security situation in the country and how it has affected the church.
