Only Rivers House Of Assembly Can Investigate Our Finances – RVSG

Ministries, departments and agencies of the Rivers State Government have been called upon to submit themselves to the oversight of the State House of Assembly, the only institution the state government said is empowered to investigate its financial activities.

The state Commissioner for Information, Emma Okah said this when he spoke to newsmen shortly after appearing before the Joint Committee of the Rivers State House of Assembly auditing the financial activities of MDAs in the state.

The assertion came against the background of the running battle between the state and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC over moves to investigate its activities.

“There is no way democracy can wear a beautiful look without an entrenched accountability.

“You owe the people an explanation of how you spent their money and at a time when we are entering the season politics one of your strengths is your ability to let the people know that you are accountable.

“That is why I commend the Rivers State House of Assembly for carrying out their oversight function to show that they can bring the Executive to answer questions.

“That is to show that it does not lie with the Federal government or any agency to try and take the responsibility of the State Assembly.”
