Midwest Zone Endorses Atiku/Obi
The Midwest Movement has endorsed the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar upon the support of 84% of the people of the former Bendel State.
A statement issued on behalf of the group by Dr. Don Pedro Obaseki said the endorsement of Atiku followed consultations among the group on who among the candidates would best represent the interest of the region.
He said “The Midwest Movement (MM) held a one-day Summit in Asaba, Delta State on Wednesday 12th December 2018. The theme of the Summit was “TO DETERMINE THE FUTURE OF THE MIDWEST REGION OF NIGERIA” in the Federation of Nigeria.
Prior to the Summit, an ad hoc Committee was set up to review the manifestoes and policy documents of all political parties to determine their commitment to the Restructuring and re-federalization of Nigeria, which is the Cardinal Objective of the Midwest Movement.
“Consequent on the above, between 4th and 5th of February 2019, the General Forum of the Midwest Movement held a democratic vote to decide on which of the Presidential Candidates/Parties best represents the interests, aspirations and future of the Midwest Region and its peoples among the contending political parties. The out come of the vote is as follows: PDP/ATIKU scored 84.8%; APC/BUHARI scored 6.32%; all other candidates scored 8.86%.
“Premised on the outcomes above, the Midwest Movement, as the primal voice of all Midwest/Bendel peoples of present-day Edo and Delta States, have endorsed the PDP Candidate, Alhaji ATIKU ABUBAKAR, and his running mate, PETER OBI for the position of President/Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“All Delta and Edo Voters are thus enjoined to turnout peacefully on February 16, 2019 and Vote PDP/ATIKU ABUBAKAR for President, as this best represents the aspirations of our peoples.”
