Kaduna Government Announces Mandatory Use Of Residents Card, NIN

Ahead of presidential and National Assembly elections holding on Saturday, Kaduna State was on Friday gripped with palpable tension after unknown gunmen killed at least 66 persons in Kajuru.

The identity of the gunmen was not made known.

The killing was confirmed by Mr. Samuel Aruwan, spokesman to Governor Nasir El-Rufai.

Among those killed were 22 children, 12 women. The governor’s spokesman said that security men were on the trial of the assailants.

Kajuru is 59 kilometers Southeast of the capital city in the troubled Southern Kaduna region of the state and is an area that has been particularly peeved by the actions of Governor El-rufai.

In response to the animosity of the people, the governor chose to pick a Muslim woman as his running mate in an apparent determination to rebuff the sentiments of the mostly Christian dominated section of the state.
