Did Aisha Vote Against Her Husband?

President’s Glance At Polling Booth Suggestive

Nigerians were on Saturday captivated by the picture of President Muhammadu Buhari looking over to see how his wife, Aisha Buhari voted.

The picture of the president stretching his head to see how his wife voted, and the wife’s amusement over the president’s glance is an issue that has enthralled Nigerians who have in the last three years grappled with the quiet revolution raised by Aisha Buhari against her husband’s government.

Aisha was a major component of the Buhari campaign in the 2015 election.

She was as such particularly peeved that after the husband came to power that those who were not involved in the campaign took over the government.

“People who did not share the vision of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) are now appointed to top posts because of the influence a few people wield,” she told the BBC’s Naziru Mikailu in an interview in 2016 while her husband was in Germany.

The interview prompted President Buhari during a news conference with the German chancellor, Angela Merkel to say that his wife belonged to the kitchen and the other room.

“Some people were sitting down in their homes folding their arms only for them to be called to come and head an agency or a ministerial position. You will know them if you watch television,” Mrs. Buhari had added.

She followed up to say that she may not campaign for him if things were to continue the way they were.

“He is yet to tell me but I have decided as his wife, that if things continue like this up to 2019, I will not go out and campaign again and ask any woman to vote like I did before. I will never do it again.”

Remarkably, Mrs. Buhari was conspicuously absent during the campaign. Severally her messages were passed out, but she was physically absent for most of the campaign.

Aisha Buhari had threatened not to campaign for her husband

Was it because of her threat? The quiet message was that the First Lady was ill and was out of the country, hence her absence during the campaigns.

So when the First Couple went out to vote early on Saturday, and following her threats, Mr. President had to take another look to be sure that she voted for him. Did she?

Remarkably, Buhari won in his polling unit with 520 votes to the 3 votes polled by Atiku, meaning that if not Aisha, at least three other persons voted against him in his polling unit.

Or was Aisha one of them? It would certainly remain a matter of conjecture!
