How Riverine Votes Cost Omosede Igbinedion Reps Seat

Peoples Democratic Party, PDP officials are expressing shock how the party lost the Ovia Federal Constituency seat in Edo State to the All Progressives Congress, APC despite a handsome lead by the party’s candidate, Ms. Omosede Igbinedion.

Ms. Igbinedion, daughter of Chief Gabriel Igbinedion and sister of former governor of the state, Chief Lucky Igbinedion and was the incumbent seeking a return to the House on the ticket of the PDP.

Like in many areas of Edo South, the PDP was on the lead until the arrival of votes from the Ijaw riverine area of the constituency.

“The PDP was in total control of Edo South and we were defeating them everywhere. In Ovia, PDP was leading with about 3,000 votes until the mysterious votes came from the riverine area inhabited by the Ijaw.

“That is the only reason the APC was able to overturn our lead and you see that is the only Federal Constituency they could get,” the PDP chieftain lamented.
