Wading Into Speakership Contest, Ooni Advocates For Youths

Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, the Ooni of Ife has called for a conscious effort to entrust the country’s youths in top political positions.

The Oba spoke weekend when he received House of Representatives speakership contender, Mohammed Umaru Bago in his palace.

“Yes, we now have a Not Too Young to Run law, but to compliment that we need to consciously bring the youth into leadership positions”, Ooni said in a passing endorsement of the bid of the 45 year-old Bago.

The visit by Bago to the top Yoruba monarch was another demonstration of the imminent crisis in the All Progressives Congress, APC giving feelers to the fact that moves by the party leadership to coerce others interested in the top position in the House to concede the office to Rep. Femi Gbajabiamila.

Bago: Ooni wants more youths in authority

Welcoming Bago to his palace, the Ooni said the visit was indicative of the Niger State born legislator’s respect for the Yoruba race.

While wishing him success, the royal father said:

“As the custodian of the tradition and values of the over 500 million Yoruba worldwide, and by the grace of sitting on the revered throne of Oduduwa, I pray for the success of your endeavour.”

Bago on his part had earlier observed what he described as the historical relationship between his Nupe people in Niger State and the Yoruba. He also said his visit to the Ooni’s place was in part inspired by the monarch’s advocacy for youths in government.
