Crisis Hits Sokoto APC

Crisis has broken out in the Sokoto State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC following a division in the ranks of APC members-elect of the State House of Assembly on the correctness of boycotting an orientation training for incoming members of the House.

Sources in Sokoto told gwg.ng that the leadership of the House of Assembly had as with previous sets of legislators arranged an induction course for the members-elect in Kaduna. The APC members-elect it was, however, are being coerced to boycott the event by party leaders in Sokoto.

The APC won 16 of the 30 seats in the House of Assembly in the state legislative elections conducted last March. The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP won 14 seats and also retained the governorship through Aminu Waziri Tambuwal.

It was reliably gathered that members elected on the platform of APC resolved to boycott the programme, after a stormy session at the residence of party leader, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko.

At the end of the meeting it was understood that the APC members-elect were admonished against attending the retreat and were offered an alternative induction in Abuja and a subsequent trip to Saudi Arabia.

Wamakko: APC State Caucus leader

The resolution, however, did not go down well with some of the members-elect who questioned the rationale for them to boycott an official induction course when as they claimed the party leader, Wamakko attended a similar retreat organized for senators-elect in Abuja.

In spite of the division in their ranks an old member and returnee to the House was alleged to have called the Acting Clerk to the House, Abdulrasaq Shehu to inform him of the boycott by APC legislators.

While the PDP members are already in Kaduna for the retreat, sharp disagreement has continued amongst the APC legislators on whether or not to attend the retreat, with some of them showing concern about the overbearing attitude and dictatorial tendencies of the APC state leaders.

Two APC members-elect elect, who sought anonymity expressed bitterness over the boycott, saying that the obligation of all members should be to their constituencies and not any godfather.
