The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB has over the weekend reaped N91.3 million from the release of results to the 1.82 million candidates who sat for the 2019 examinations Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME.

The windfall for the board comes against the counsel by the registrar of the board, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede to parents not to allow themselves to be exploited by business centres aiming to help them check the results on the internet.

Meanwhile, the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS has given a 48 hour deadline to JAMB to refund the N50 it charged the parents for the release of the results saying it was abnormal for a candidate to pay for the results they duly registered for.

Meanwhile, JAMB collects the N50 per candidate on the transmission of a code to a number from the phone line the candidate used in the registration.

The results were released over the weekend. However, as at Monday, a number of candidates were yet to receive the results despite sending the code. It was learnt that those who used MTN and 9 Mobile for the registration were mainly affected by this.

NANS president, Comrade Abdulmajeed Oladimeji Oyeniyi while demanding the refund of the N50 SMS charges said it was exploitative of JAMB to collect the money given the fact that it had the data of its candidates in its data base.

“The Nigerian students no longer have confidence in the board’s leadership and decision making.

“In a sane community, Computer Based Test (CBT) should be well planned before execution to cater for the purposes it was invented for.

“The sanity in the system should ensure appropriate immediate release of results of examinations done by students but it was unfortunate that the board took almost a month to release results across the nation with unprofessional, unethical, non-ideological and non-technological excuses which is nothing but a disgrace to us as giant of Africa.”
